Prospective Observational Case Studies

Situation

Perceived that current management of a rare form of brain tumours within specialist tertiary care centres varies significantly across the UK. NHS and industry keen to gather data to inform current practice and to encourage shared learning and build collaborative working relationships between industry and key NHS.

Solution

Develop a national study with a robust protocol addressing a key research question offered to all specialist centres and engaging 18 of 34 of these centres. NHS personnel collected data prospectively via their specialist Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) nurse on all relevant patients presenting to the MDT for surgery.

Outputs

Successful programme of investigator meetings to share data, experience and learning and facilitating peer to per discussion to optimise management. In addition, a number of publications authored by the investigators who are all key NHS opinion leaders are currently under development.

"The team were friendly, helpful and very organised and efficient in helping us set up and run the High Grade Glioma Study. I would thoroughly recommend them and would be happy to work with them again"
