Time and Motion Case Studies

Situation

New oral chemotherapy agent providing an opportunity for oral plus IV regimen every 3 weeks vs standard of care IV regimen every 2 weeks. There was a need to demonstrate real life resource use and capacity released by oral chemo agent.

Solution

We conducted a prospective time and motion study in three tertiary care centres to look at the following:
• Staff time
• Chair time
• Use of consumables
• Patient  throughput
• Patient time

Outputs

Data was used to generate a number of posters and abstracts and was available for economic modelling for HTA submissions and budget impact model for marketing purposes.
